Book Fair: All Virtual for 2020!

This year’s Pond Cove Scholastic Book Fair will be happening online! Hooray!

The PCPA will be hosting a totally virtual book fair for two weeks. It’s simple – log on, browse and pick out books, add them to your cart, check out and they get sent directly to your door. If your order is $25 of books or more, the shipping is free!

Scholastic book fairs are an exciting tradition for our students, and we’re excited that Scholastic is offering this opportunity in lieu of an in-person book fair. This virtual fair is also a chance for out-of-town friends and family to consider buying books to benefit Pond Cove.

The PCPA will get a portion of the sales and the money we earn will go directly into funding teacher grants throughout the year. The dates of the fair will be October 23th-November 5th. Pick out some books for gift giving season and support your teachers!

Step-by-step:

  1. Use our special link to go to the ordering website
  2. Order books
  3. Books get shipped to your address
  4. You enjoy your books, PCPA gets a portion of the proceeds to pay for enrichment opportunities like birthday books and teacher grants

Welcome Back to School!

Welcome back Pond Cove families and a big welcome to all new families joining our community. We imagine you’re feeling anxious about what the school year 2020-2021 will bring. We are too! Together we’ll support each other, our students, and our wonderful faculty and staff. Please get in touch if there’s anything we can do to help, we’d love to hear from you.

We’ve put together this quick guide to a few things you might want to pay attention to as school gets back underway, as well as some easy ways to help the PCPA as we work to enrich the school experience and our community.

Back to School To-Dos

  • If your child will be attending school in-person, don’t forget to log into Powerschool to complete the COVID-19 contract. If you’re new to Pond Cove and don’t have your Powerschool login yet, contact the Pond Cove office.
  • School lunches are fully subsidized for all until the end of 2020. Get the Nutrislice app or visit cape.nutrislice.com to create an account and/or learn how to order.
  • Update your family’s school directory listing using this online form or by downloading this PDF. You don’t need to do this if the only thing that’s changed is your child(ren)’s grade.
  • Order your directory copy for this year using this form.
  • Get some Clynk bags to help us raise funds for outdoor programs. You can find them in the Pond Cove lobby or contact Dana Schauf.
  • If you haven’t already, sign up for PCPA email updates and subscribe to our Google Calendar.

Get involved with the PCPA

The first PCPA meeting of the 2020-21 school year is on Wednesday, September 16. Join us (via Google Hangout) and see what it’s all about. You can find the sign in information on our Google Calendar.

In the meantime you can explore volunteer opportunities (we have plenty!) and easy ways to help us fundraise right here on our website. You can help the PCPA simply by shopping at Amazon or Hannaford, or by using CLYNK to return cans and bottles.

If you’re looking for a simple but impactful way to help, consider being a room parent for your child’s classroom. Room Parents help the teacher and the PCPA communicate with other parents. We’re also looking for a volunteer to serve as Room Parent Coordinator. Contact us for more info.

Date: September 1, 2020
Time: 7:00 pm

Click this link to join the Zoom

Pond Cove School Counselor Bri Gallagher, along with some of her Pond Cove colleagues, will provide a brief parent presentation focused on how to help meet the social and emotional needs of children as they get ready to transition back to school during this unprecedented time. After the presentation there will be some time for participant questions related to social emotional wellness.

The presentation will have three areas of focus:

  • Dealing with our own thoughts, feelings, and fears as parents/caregivers.
  • Talking to our children about the return to school and helping prepare them to have a positive start.
  • Sharing information about how Pond Cove staff and school structures will support students socially and emotionally this fall.

Class of 2033 Welcome Video

Whether you’re new to Pond Cove or not, check out our video to get to know the current board and learn more about what we’re expecting for the coming school year.

Welcome new Pond Cove families!

Welcome to Pond Cove Elementary School!

It goes without saying that this school year is starting off unlike any other in our history. The beginning of the school year can be nerve wracking, especially if this is your first student going to Kindergarten or if you’re new to the Cape Elizabeth community. Add the new circumstances surrounding Covid-19 and we are wading into totally uncharted territory. Let us be the first to welcome you and say “We can do this.”

The PCPA is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. This designation provides credibility to our organization as we recruit sponsors and allows all donations to be tax-deductible. As a parent or guardian with a student in Pond Cove School, you are automatically a member and stakeholder in what we do.

Our mission is to enrich, support, and enhance the social and learning environment of Pond Cove students. Historically, the PCPA raises funds by hosting events that provide a wide range of educational enrichment programs for staff and students that are not included in our school budget. This may not fully be possible this year. All of the money raised by the PCPA goes back into the school to fund great programs. In previous years, it has funded visiting artists for Arts Day and the yearly Visiting Author. We also fund the Teachers Grants Program, which helps teachers and staff acquire innovative programs and tools, attend exciting field trips, and host special events. With all that is unknown at this time, we anticipate being flexible and evolving as the situations change.

As this new school year begins, we would like to ask you for your support as we forge a new path through a unique year. We will be adapting to new policies, restrictions, and best practices to keep all students, staff, and community members safe – while raising money to help teachers do what they do best: teaching and caring for our students, in person and remotely.

As Interim President, please let me be the first to invite you to participate. Everyone has a seat at this table. We welcome you to join our meetings to contribute your ideas, talents and actively participate in the discussion, along with raising any concerns you may have throughout the year. Our meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 8pm. We’ll be holding them online to make it easier for all to attend. All meeting dates and activities will be posted here on our website and on our Facebook page.

Once again, welcome to Pond Cove and thank you in advance for your support. This is hopefully the beginning of a long relationship with Pond Cove and the Cape Elizabeth Schools community. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a board member. We hope you have a wonderful school year and we look forward to seeing you online at our first meeting on September 16th at 8pm.
