Volunteering for the Garden Club gives the opportunity to make a visual impact and improve the aesthetics in an area our students enjoy daily. Other than Mother Nature influencing when you dig in, the schedule is really driven by your availability. Parents and guardians volunteering through the Garden Club are able to work on the current projects anytime, including during the school day! Younger children may join a supervising adult on the weekends or during the week between 8:30 and 9:50 a.m. or after 2:10 p.m.
The Garden Club has been asked to help raise awareness of natural items needed for the Natureland Area. As we tend to our yard, we may find a wealth of dried materials. These materials could include:
- interesting smaller fallen branches
- bark
- dry grasses
- pinecones
- acorns
- milkweed pods
- colorful leaves
- dried flowers
The students will have these materials available when playing at Natureland. They use the materials to build "fairy houses" and other creative discovery. The two critical rules when collecting such materials is to use only natural materials and not to harm anything that is still growing, (although garden trimmings from home are great to recycle!)
Items fitting the descriptions above may be brought, in a bag, to the Pond Cove Reception Desk. Please label the bag "Natureland."
If you have plants you would like to donate or would like more information about current projects, contact Ang Foley.
This aerial photograph of Pond Cove shows where the Garden Club has put in most of its effort to date. Please join us for as much time as you can give!
